In the first week of January 2008, Susie decided she wanted to begin running. She had never run before. As of today, she has completed 4 marathons, 9 half marathons, 1 marathon relay and numerous smaller races. She was formerly a ZOOMA Ambassador and coached women to run their first 5k and half marathon. She is proud member of Twenty-Six Two Marathon Club, TX Beef Team and now a Chosen Ambassador.
Stevi started running cross-country and track in middle school because a coach made her do it. She eventually fell in love with running, and competed on her high school and college cross country and track teams. She still loves to compete and push her limits today. Her motivation for running comes from the joy it brings and belief that she should use the gifts God gave her. Running is her passion, and she loves pursuing it for the glory of God and the love of people. She is so thankful for the Chosen Marathon – particularly, because she met her husband through running the race in 2012!
Matt began distance running when his fiancé (now wife) registered him for a 10-miler back in 2008. Since then he has run 4 marathons and countless half marathons, his favorites being Boston and Chosen, respectively. Running provides him an opportunity to challenge himself and to help other runners by pacing them in workouts and races. He feels that Chosen is an amazing opportunity to help adoptive families like his!
Tracy Dunford has been running since 2011. Chosen Marathon is her favorite marathon. She ran my first Chosen in 2012 and has been blessed to be able to run it every year since then. This race is precious to her, as adoption is very dear to her heart. Her husband Doug, her first chosen love, was adopted from Germany. He also adopted her two daughters shortly after they were married. Lord willing, she will be a part of the Chosen Marathon for many more years.
Paul Carmona has completed 41 marathons, more than 30 triathlons (including one Ironman), and a 100-mile ultramarathon. Since 2004, he has coached marathoners with Twenty-Six Two Marathon Club in Austin. Paul has also served as the Finish Line Manager for the Austin Marathon since 2006. Throughout the year, Paul serves as an official pacer at various half-marathons and marathons across the country.
John has been running over 44 years and coaching for 29. He is a veteran of 29 marathons including Boston, one in Boston and a satellite version in Iraq, New York, and Paris. John loves helping new and experienced runners meet their personal goals while having fun and staying injury free. He is big on recovery nutrition to help you meet your goals. John is a Registered Dietitian Board Certified in Sports Nutrition, from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. He loves to teach the benefits of performance nutrition to get the most out of your workouts. His coaching style is a mix of Lydiard, Bowerman, Daniels and McMillan. John will tell you that he keeps the foundation of his training programs but will change them based on the latest coaching techniques and science. His favorite runner is Steve Prefontaine.
Andrea Duke is an American long-distance runner who emerged as an elite runner in February 2014 when she won the Rock ‘n’ Roll New Orleans Marathon in 2:58:57. In October 2014, she ran the Chicago Marathon and met the qualifying standard to compete in the 2016 U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials in Los Angeles with a personal record of 2:41:05 finishing in the top 20 women. Duke has run 46 marathons (since 2002) including 10 Boston Marathon qualifying marathons, and was picked up as a sponsored athlete by Oiselle in 2014. Duke lives in San Antonio, Texas with her husband and two young children.
